FREE Workshops for Family Carers

The National Valuing Families Forum (NVFF) have linked with Learning Disability Carers Community to provide three free workshops for family carers.

All the workshops are free to attend with a light lunch and refreshments provided. You may attend as many as you wish. The first workshops however is geared towards older carers who wish to plan for the long term future of their loved one. The workshops are being held in Derby.

Workshop 1: 18th September
Christine Towers - Thinking Ahead
This workshop will help family carers think and talk about the future, particularly when their son or daughter still lives at home with them and they are feeling worried about what the future might bring. Families will be introduced to the Thinking Ahead approach to planning which takes things step by step and focuses on what would work well for someone with a learning disability and their family.

Workshop 2: 17th October
Rhiannon Gale – How to get the right support by understanding and using the law.

Workshop 3: 24th October 2017
Pamela Gallagher - The Care Act - Your rights
and EHCP’s /Transition
The aim of the workshop is for attendees to have a better understanding of what lies ahead as their relative moves towards adulthood. After the workshop, attendees should have a better understanding of:
• Their rights under The Care Act and The Mental Capacity Act
• Education Health and Care Plans and Transition Assessments
• Charities and support available outside of the local authority
