NEW! GDPR events in collaboration with Flint Bishop LLP

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most significant development in data protection that Europe has seen over the past twenty years. Its focus is to ensure that organisations have a culture of good practice and governance in respect of the integrity and security of individuals’ personal data that they have responsibility for.

It is enforceable from May 2018, but is your organisation ready? We are pleased to be offering sessions in collaboration with Flint Bishop Solicitors as we look to understand the impact of GDPR on social care organisations and what needs to be done to ensure compliant practices.

Join us in December as we give you further insight into:

  • Identifying key areas to be addressed, including data storage, classification and access
  • Lawful processing, including the data of vulnerable persons and consent
  • Individuals’ Rights, including Subject Access Requests (SAR) and Freedom Of Information (FOI)
  • Understanding your obligations on reporting data breaches and how to mitigate their effects
  • The role of Data Protection Officers and the practicalities of appointing and outsourcing
  • There will also be time allowed for a networking opportunity for you to share best practice, and to ask specific questions.

These sessions are scheduled for Headingley and Nuneaton, with information to be shared with members in the South West and South East in due course.

These sessions are particularly ideal for staff in Human Resources, as well as Quality Managers, Financial Managers, Regional Managers, Directors and CEOs.

The structure of the morning will be as follows:

• A presentation and overview of GDPR
• Question and answer session
• Networking opportunity to share tips and best practice in data protection

These events will be run by Claire Tonks. Claire is a Commercial Contacts Partner at regional law firm Flint Bishop and has recently been recognised by The Legal 500 2017.

Each session will commence at 10am, with arrival and refreshments provided from 9:30am. The sessions will close at 12:00pm.

GDPR Sessions - December 2017 - There’s still time to book!

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes in to force in May 2018 and all organisations need to be ready. But specifically how does it affect social care providers?

Within social care there are thousands of pieces of information that you potentially handle as a provider:

  • Records, including Care Plans, medical records of the people you support
  • Family information
  • Employee information
  • If you receive donations, information on donors need to be considered too

We want to support social care providers to understand the implications of these changes and to help you think about who is going to be your Data Protection Officer - an internal staff member or to be sourced externally.

The session is for 2 hours - an hours worth of training, 30 minutes of Q&A and 30 minutes of networking and talking to others about the ‘How to’.

The session will cover:

  • Identifying key areas to be addressed, including data storage, classification and access
  • Lawful processing, including the data of vulnerable persons and consent
  • Individuals’ Rights, including Subject Access Requests (SAR) and Freedom Of Information (FOI)
  • Understanding your obligations on reporting data breaches and how to mitigate their effects
  • The role of Data Protection Officers and the practicalities of appointing and outsourcing
