Training course for learning-disabled actors launched in Wales

Theatre company Hijinx has launched a new performance training course for learning-disabled actors in west Wales.

Eight students have already been enrolled onto the one-year course, which began this month and will run for two days each week at the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen.

Students will study a range of skills including physical theatre, improvisation, mask work and clowning.

The course – run in conjunction with training provider Arts Care Gofal Celf – is the fourth that has been established by Hijinx in Wales to provide training for aspiring actors with learning disabilities, who Hijinx claims are “rarely able to follow the traditional drama school route”.
