A BILD Learning and Development Day

5 November 2015 and 22 February 2016, Birmingham

This event explores what a learning disability is and what it means for the individual. It examines public perception of people with learning disabilities and how this can create barriers to inclusion.

It will help delegates to discover ways in which they can adapt their communication so they can be understood by people with learning disabilities. This event is co-delivered by a trainer with a learning disability.

Aims and outcomes
Participants will develop an understanding of learning disabilities and an awareness of how to provide effective support to people with learning disabilities.

At the end of this event delegates will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the term “learning disability”
• Describe the barriers experienced by people with learning disabilities and identify ways to overcome these
• Consider the public perception of people with learning disabilities and the effect of these on the individual
• Explore ways of adapting their communication so that they can be understood by people with learning disabilities
