Mate Crime and People with Learning Disabilities
Monday 27 February

This workshop is suitable for anyone who works with people with learning disabilities. It can also be adapted and delivered to individuals with learning disabilities. Mate Crime is a term to describe what happens when people in vulnerable situations are abused or exploited by people they think of as friends.

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Understand what Mate Crime is
  • Be aware of the prevalence and typology
  • Understand what makes some people so vulnerable
  • Have an understanding of reporting suspected mate crime
  • Understand the law and policy surrounding mate crime.

Supporting Medication: Train the Trainer
Wednesday 1 March

Supporting Medication in Social Care settings: Train the Trainer will train your already competent trainer to deliver Supporting Medication training. Each participant completing the one-day course will have refreshed their own knowledge and understanding of the training pack outcomes and have a comprehensive training pack to deliver in-house training.

By the end of the course learners will:

  • Be able to effectively deliver Supporting Medication in Social Care settings training to your team
  • Understand how to promote the rights of the individual and support use of medication
  • Understand the legislative framework for the use of medication in social care settings
  • Understand supporting medication including the different types and uses, storage and administering techniques
  • Understand the process for receiving, storing and disposing of medication supplies
    Understand how to record and report on the use of medication.

Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

Tuesday 7 March

This workshop is aimed at front line staff. This one-day workshop is designed to increase awareness and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, which continues to be an area of concern for many providers.

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Have an increased awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Understand how the Act impacts people who have a learning disability and those supporting them
  • Understand how the Safeguards impact on people who have a learning disability and those supporting them
  • Be aware of recent developments relating to MCA and DoLS
  • Know where to access further sources of advice and support in relation to the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
