Hi all, my son has been visiting a local chip shop for quite a few years. this evening he went to buy some chips. he came home with fish and chips - was charged for this - and he insisted he asked for chips only. We returned to chip shop to explain - the “gentleman” behind the counter said, and I quote “You calling me a liar?”. I said he had a learning disability with speach and language problems but he was not willing to listen. So i said “Fcuk it -removed the fish from the wrapper, said keep your fish and his money” and stormed out the shop. Not my finest hour i admit but aaaaagggghr!!! has anyone else had any similar experience? and advice?
Hi there, no advice I’m afraid as my adult son is non verbal. I just wanted to send you and your son a virtual hug. People can be so ignorant can’t they? I hope someone else has a few ideas x
Hi
Next time another shop , give your son a photo of a packet of chips / or fish . Etc he can then show them what he wants and ofcourse say it as well.
Hello,
My son is non-verbal and uses PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) photos and objects of reference. As the previous person said, a photo of chips, shown to the person behind the counter, would make it clear what your son wants.
Unfortunately, there are still some ignorant people around.
Best wishes.
My adult Son, wears a Lanyard with Sunflower (Autistic) & another one & i agree, pictures of what your wanting, is great help, with communication.
That’s awful, your son deserves to be treated with respect. You did the right thing standing up for him. Maybe leave bad reviews if you can.
