Loss and Bereavement Online Training - booking now open

Hi Everyone,

Following the high demand for our recent Loss and Bereavement Webinar, we have expanded the session into a full online training course suitable for anyone working with people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism:
Supporting People with a Learning Disability Through Loss and Bereavement (https://arcuk.org.uk/blog/new-online-training-course-supporting-people-with-a-learning-disability-through-loss-and-bereavement/)

Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th August, 1.30pm-4pm

Two 2.5 hour sessions delivered on consecutive days by psychotherapist David O’Driscoll.

Session One: The first day will focus on general theories around loss and bereavement. It will include some material on the importance of funerals and ‘when grief goes wrong’. The focus will then move to people with a learning disability and their specific vulnerabilities.

Session Two: The second session will focus on practical responses, including a checklist of what social care services should be doing. It will also look at specific interventions such as ‘social stories’ and ‘social scripts’. There will be an opportunity to look at a delegate’s concerns around a service user and a case formation session. This will be an opportunity for the group to put theory from the course into practice.

David O’Driscoll is a psychotherapist working in the NHS, chair of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire.

The sessions will be 2.5 hours with a break in the middle. It will be delivered via Zoom with a PowerPoint presentation. Delegates will be sent the PowerPoint material beforehand.
