Building Futures – Moving to Supported Living
This workshop will be run by Halow Project where young people and staff will talk about working towards independence and supported living.
Building Futures is an exciting and innovative full-time community-based learning programme that nurtures the independence, enriches the lives, continues the education, and builds the futures of Halow ’s young people.
The young people will discuss:
-
How person-centred short- and long-term goals in the community can build
someone’s independence in readiness for supported living; and how doing
this in conjunction with the local authority can reduce packages over time. -
Visiting supporting living environments as part of the programme, for a genuine experience of what it would be like.
-
Difficulties in the current economic climate of meeting young people’s
desires to move into supported living… as a transitional programme, Halow Project are skilling people up and building their independence, only for the funding
system to let them down.
