Phasing out of specialist LD daycare provision

I work for a large charity providing daycare for older people. Our centre specialises in offering support to older people with learning disabilities. Over the last couple of years, new Clients with learning disabilities have been directed towards mainstream centres, rather than our Centre. If prospective Clients were offered choice and declined our centre, this may be acceptable, but I fear they are not. Our Client lists have declined and my position is now at risk of redundancy. I would like to challenge our organisation’s decision to ‘phase out’ specialist LD support. Does anyone have any good arguments of support or research which may help me? Mabel.

Hi Mabel,

Perhaps this will help: https://designforcare.wordpress.com/2014/03/28/a-new-look-at-day-centres/

Thanks for that. An excellent piece of writing. Just what I have been trying to say but my argument sounded more clumsy. I’ll take a copy to my next redundancy meeting!

Mabel.
