A BILD CPD Learning and Development Day - 16 February 2016, Birmingham

Strong practice leadership is essential to ensure that the consistency of support and quality of life for people with learning disabilities who are supported by social care or health services is of a high standard.

We know from recent serious case reviews that exemplary policies are not effective in ensuring high quality support, unless there is a leadership and management focus on making sure they are translated into frontline practice.

In order to ensure organisational cultures support policy and practice, managers should think and act as practice leaders.

This CPD event will highlight the benefits of direct supervision, role modelling and developing a mutual ‘learning environment’ at the frontline, between managers and direct support staff.

It will examine the theory, research and elements of a practice leadership style of management, the experience of implementing practice leadership in widely differing organisations, highlighting potential barriers and guiding people through practical solutions. The event will also look at manager as coach and describe the skills needed to be able to coach well.
