Raising the bar on outcomes for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities

Friday 2 November, University of Birmingham
Raising the bar II ~ Improving health, lives and outcomes for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities

A year on from the launch of the ‘Core & Essential Service Standards: Supporting people with profound and multiple learning disabilities’, we are gathering to reflect on progress and share successes of ‘the standards in action’. Come and join us on this inspiring day.

This year’s annual conference brings together practitioners and families, students and academics, services and providers from Health, Education and Care to add to this much-needed momentum for change. [not-for-profit event]

These co-produced Core and Essential Service Standards aim to raise the bar on expectations and improve the standards of care for this, too often overlooked, group of individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities. LeDeR’s recent report noted the mean age of death within this group to be 41 years - not because of their disabling conditions, but due to the inequalities in health and care that they experienced. Join us and be part of this momentum for change!

Sounds great! Unfortunately I cannot be there. Will you be “publishing” the proceedings? Would love to find out more.

Hi pdtaylor!
Thanks for your interest in this work - we are trying hard to get this useful tool out there and being used to make a difference!

Our conference this year and last year have been facilitated under the umbrella of PMLD Link - a tiny, shoe-string, not for profit charity run by a small group of passionate volunteers… with no resources to make a big noise.

This year we have been sharing many of the presentations from last year’s conference in PMLD Link, our publication. It’s an informal journal with 3 issues a year, currently with themed issues around the standards. We will be publishing articles and contributions from this year’s conference presenters - beginning with our Winter edition, themed Health and Wellbeing [due out early December hopefully].
We also very regularly share articles and other information on social media so do check there too! [@PMLDlink + Facebook pages- PMLD Link and Raising the Bar- community of practice…]

Copies of the most recent journals are by a small subscription - for this you get a hard copy of the journal posted to you and access to every edition electronically. However, by signing in as a Guest Subscriber, anyone can get free access our large archive of back editions (we’ve been going 30 years this year!) and resource ideas.

Do get in touch if you want to contribute to this work or the journal … or if we can help further!
