Support My Loving - Meeting the new CQC Relationships and Sexuality Guidanc

Dr Claire Bates is the founder of the Supported Loving Network which promotes best practice around supporting people with learning disabilities to have loving relationships, she is also a researcher at the University of Kent’s Tizard Centre exploring the topic of sexuality and relationships for people with learning disabilities.

Claire was also a consultant on the CQC guidance on “Relationships and Sexuality in Care Settings”- she is offering an introductory course for supporters of adults with a learning disability to find out how your organisation can meet the requirements of this important guidance. Course participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge and engage in joint problem solving

It will cover

  • How to meet the CQC guidance
  • Why consideration of relationships and sexuality is important in the lives of people with a learning disability including current research in this area
  • The barriers that people face in expressing their sexuality and how these can be overcome.
  • Presentation of a guided decision-making model that can be used by supporters to aid interventions.
  • Exploring the issues of mental capacity and risk assessment in relation to sexuality
