I have just completed an introductory training online for carers in a Pakistani special needs orphanage; I based it on NICE guidelines and used photographs on PowerPoints . I used photographs because most of the carers are unable to read or write. The 3hour training covered basic Safeguarding , Communication and disability awareness . The training was delivered in Urdu my mother tongue . In six months the 48 carers who attended all 3 sessions will be assessed on what they learned, by ticking the right photograph out of two and then will be given a certificate of completion & attendance.
I’m sharing this as a resource as I put a lot of effort into researching and compiling this training. The feedback I got from the orphanage managers and carers was very positive. If anyone is interested or has carers with similar needs I am happy to deliver this free of charge. Do contact me or give feedback - as a SEN teacher I always appreciated any training for cares/ CA. Now as a pensioner I have had time to develop such awareness training.

Thanks for sharing this. I am a volunteer teacher, supporting refugees and asylum seekers learn English. I’d like to find an example of a short introduction to UK’s safeguarding culture, communicated in simple English and focusing on selected headline messages, so that people with limited comprehension of the English language learn a little to help them navigate. I’d be interested in learning more about the material you have developed for Urdu speakers , and particularly the section where you introduced safeguarding. Please email me directly at peter.bates96@outlook.com Thank you very much
