We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated Learning Disability Nurse to join our team in Banbury, Oxfordshire. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the physical and mental health needs of adults with a learning disability that live in the locality. This will be delivered using the Holistic Model of Care framework whilst using our Six Areas of Clinical Practice.

You will be responsible, with support from a clinical supervisor, for managing your own caseload. This will include assessing needs, prescribing therapeutic interventions and evaluating nursing care with and for people who have a learning disability.

You will work proactively and creatively to reduce health inequalities, experienced by people who have a learning disability, with a focus on promoting and maintaining good health. You will support people who have a learning disability to access primary and secondary health and social care services and will also work with families, carers and third sector support providers.

You will also work with team colleagues to develop health promotion initiatives for people who have a learning disability living in our locality.

You will have the opportunity to mentor students as well as provide clinical and management supervision to unqualified staff in the nursing team. An opportunity to develop your mentorship training and preceptorship are available as required.

You will be required and supported to maintain professional standards of practice and behaviour in line with the NMC Code of Conduct and our Trust’s values, policies and procedures.

Applications are welcomed from third year Learning Disability Nursing students who are in their final stage of training and can demonstrate a willingness and commitment to the transition from student to qualified nurse status. A comprehensive preceptorship program is available for newly qualified Nurses.

The North Oxfordshire Learning Disability Team are a Multi-Disciplinary Specialist Community Team, looking for a highly motivated Learning Disability Nurse (Band 5) to provide Nursing intervention for people with learning disability in the North and West of Oxfordshire.

You will be part of a small team of nurses who work collaboratively with a wider Multi-Disciplinary team of Administrators, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychiatrists and Psychologists to assess and deliver care. You would be involved in a range of clinical activities, assessments and interventions to improve the lives of people with a learning disability.

Line Management and Clinical Supervision is through the Band 6 Nurse or Senior Nurse. This is an excellent opportunity to support clients with learning disabilities to achieve optimum health within their communities and to work in collaboration with other health and social care colleagues.
