Hello,
My name is Alice and I am the Disability and Youth Projects Co-ordinator for the YMCA East Surrey. At the YMCA we believe that everyone should be able to live a full and active life, regardless of their ability or health. We support children, young people and adults with disabilities or complex needs by providing specialised activities that promote independence and give families a short break. Whether through sport and exercise, social activities or volunteering – we strive to make it possible for people with disabilities to participate in all our mainstream services and also run specific projects for those with higher support needs.
My role is to oversee our play and leisure services in the Mole Valley and Epsom areas, where we have been given recent funding from Surrey County Council. As these are new services we have lots of spaces for children and teenagers that would benefit from the activities provided.
What activities/groups do we offer?
YIPPEE – Our YIPPEE groups are based in five locations –Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley
This play scheme runs every Saturday during term time and during the school holidays. It is for children between the ages of 5-11 with a wide range of disabilities and complex needs. We provide age appropriate activities for children, ensuring that they can play with friends and try out new things.
Yip4Youth – Our Yip4Youth groups are based in four locations – Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley
This runs every Saturday during term time and during the school holidays. Yip4Youth ensures that young people with disabilities can meet up in a safe place and try out new activities with their friends. Activities are chosen by the young people to help social interaction and independence.
Yip4Youth Fridays – Our Yip4Youth Friday Youth Club runs alternative Fridays in the Dorking and Reigate area.
These sessions are for people aged 12-18 with disabilities. Our fun sessions are a fantastic way to make new friends and spend time with old ones. Each session will have a theme, which will promote both social and life skills. Activities are chosen by the people attending the group and they have the chance to work towards accreditations whilst having fun.
